There is a lot to be said for

Going slow. That’s easy for me to say, with few deadlines, meetings or appointments. Not so easy if you are always juggling countless demands on your time. My suggestion for you is to assign time for yourself every day. Even Jesus did that.

I caught myself looking at my phone when my daughter was in the room waiting to speak to me. How can anything be more important than the person sitting next to you? A few years ago I watched as my gruff neighbour bent down to smell one of the roses in my garden. That surprised me but also taught me a lesson. If there is something or someone right in front of you, take time to value them.

Honestly speaking, my inability to hurry frustrates me most of the time. But if I was always rushing I probably would run past some of the remarkable things in my life. We don’t know what Jesus said or did when He went off by Himself. But it must have been crucial. What do you drop everything for? Whatever or whoever that is, that says a lot about who you are.

One of my greatest joys is when I see someone in the park that I haven’t spoken to since I became housebound. I put on my brakes and focus completely on them, for the first time in forever. Who do you put your brakes on for?

This is my challenge for you: think about what you drop everything for at the moment.

Think of the blurs of people you always rush past now.

Sit down, breathe and look around.

Life is there, waiting for you
