And use it to push back negative thoughts. I discovered again how you can train yourself to think positively and drown out the bad.
A few nights ago, thoughts about my health, ongoing tensions and fears about what lay ahead started to take over, but then I blocked them all by fixating on a picture of the silk flowers I was sent by a dear group of American women last week. The thoughts were trying to fly in, but I was able to block them with those beautiful flowers
Do you ever feel overcome with darkness or anxiety, helpless to move beyond it? This doesn’t always work, but try and focus on one good thing that has been done for you. Or maybe do something for someone else who is struggling at the moment. A few days ago I came to a stop on my trike in the park. I looked round for help. An unlikely, slightly rough-looking person was closest to me so I asked for a push. He didn’t need to think twice about it. If I had let the negative thoughts in, I would still be sitting there.
Don’t let the darkness win. You are worth a million kind deeds. Sometimes you don’t even have to ask. Expect kindness and more often than not, it will find you.
So next time the cruel thoughts start to build, beat them down with kindness. I know that sometimes it is too hard to do, but remember you are stronger than you think
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
