Are waiting for you. So I’m out the other side of our trip to Rome. Sadly, the reality I thought I was prepared for was worse than I expected. The cobbled streets were almost impossible to get across on my wheelchair, and some sights were out of reach this time I was so thankful that I had been there before as the FOMO was not as great. St Peter’s was definitely one I was sorry to miss. But, you know what? I saw things and people that I might have missed if I hadn’t been down lower than most.
Have you ever found a new community you would never have seen if circumstances were different? I exchanged smiles with people in wheelchairs that seemed to be more meaningful than usual. Mutual understanding is a precious thing.
However, I found Michael Angelo’s self-portrait in the Cistine Chapel, deep beside the other ones in the Last Judgement, and I thought, well I am not as low as that! I want to rise up, shake off the pessimism that weighs me down and reach for something better.
Don’t ever consign yourself to a hopeless state. Look up and see the light that is waiting for you. Aptly I was staying in a building that once was a place where old furniture was restored. I would love some of that for myself! We all wish for an improvement of some kind. Never consign yourself with the hopeless. Believe that the clouds will part and the sun will shine again. Especially in these grey November days.
