Imperfection is inevitable

Yesterday I finished reading over my recently published book. It had taken longer than expected to arrive so the mistakes I found were still going to be in the set of pre-ordered copies. It was too late to fix them.😩

I lost sleep fretting over those imperfect copies but I reminded myself that the people reading them would overlook the flaws.

This morning my son was playing the piano. One of the pieces he was playing was one that I used to play, Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. I spotted the incorrect notes he played but it didn’t matter because he was my son and I loved him.

How much time do we waste focusing on things or people we think we could improve. I discovered a frown line on my face several years ago and for a while I always looked at it. My eyesight has got worse since then so now, mercifully, I can’t see it any more! Famous celebrities have ruined their faces with too much plastic surgery in the push for perfection, forgetting one crucial thing: they are loved, no matter how much aging has changed them. I remember a card that said ‘I love you, wobbly bits and all!’

One remarkable Bible verse says ‘while we were still sinners, Christ died for us’*. The amazing truth is, no matter who we are, whatever we have done, no matter what we look like, despite our imperfections, a perfect God sent His perfect Son to make everything right.

It doesn’t get better than that.

*Romans 5v8
