John 19:41 NIV
‘At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.’
I have read the Easter story for forty years and only this week did I notice something very close to the one ideology I always harp on about: have you ever noticed that Jesus’ grave is very close to the place where he was crucified? In a garden next to the hideous scene of capital punishment. I’m guessing that no-one would have wanted to live there so instead of nothing, they created a garden where people could be buried.
Yet again, I am pointed away from pain to beauty. Once again I am reminded that death is not the end game, there is heaven after it. I am encouraged and reminded that my faith (and yours?) is hinged on beginnings, life and light. That is how I can lift my head up, that is what keeps me going, especially when life is tough. My heart is lifted by the knowledge that the cross is beside the place where death is defeated and life bursts through.
My prayer for you is that you will be able to turn away from all the darkness you struggle with towards a place which promises life. ❤️
