In Exodus 17:12 it tells the story of when Moses’ outstretched arms were getting tired, Aaron and Hur held them up for him. I have seen many times of weakness like that and many times when other people have stepped in to help me out. If we can show our need, many can help us out.
Yesterday I went to the park on my trike. I made it up the first hill and then stopped under the shade of a beautiful oak tree. I spoke to a young mother who lifted up my phone when it slid to the ground and then I waited for the help I knew was on its way.
What do we do when help is not a given and we’re just stuck? I have become used to looking round for random passers-by and asking them to give me a hand. No-one has refused yet. In my more able days, I would have been embarrassed about that. Not any more! I wonder if Moses hesitated. I think his two loyal followers were too good at anticipating his need for them to step in. I love it when that happens to me.
I am so thankful for great friends, faithful pray-ers. willing neighbours, loving family members. It is painful to admit it, but my vulnerable need has revealed more willingness to help than I could ever have dreamed of. So keep watching for those hands that need held, that trike that needs pushed, that person who is stumbling, those arms that need lifted. I promise you, it will be remembered
