And consider new approaches.
I foolishly allowed myself to remember how simple life used to be, compared with this struggle to walk, transfer, get dressed, cook, among other things. But last Friday I went to see a place that tried to make things accessible, no matter how challenging basic tasks can become;
If counters are too high, get them lowered, if the bed is challenging to get up from, put handles in to push yourself up and so on. I came home wishing my house could be automatically improved for me without any effort. An impossible dream?
Is there anything immoveable in your life that is stopping you from living? If boundaries rise up, think of ways you can overcome them,or sit down beside them and invite a friend to sit with you. Sometimes things cannot be fixed, sometimes all we can do is learn the hard lesson of living with them.
I don’t have the stark pessimism of my OT and I will always hold onto a God of hope because without Him there is nothing. Maybe one day I will be able to tell you about all the things He helped me overcome. Maybe one day things will not feel impossible. But in the meantime I will use whatever device I can and summon up whatever faith I have to overcome the impossible and truly live. 😊
