Closer than you think.
I have been facing two challenges about home recently. My son is going away to study medicine in Aberdeen next month and we are in the process of moving house. We were in IKEA earlier today getting some of the essentials for him. Thinking about bedding and cutlery does not say ‘home’ to me.
I am learning again that it is all about the heart. What I want for Samuel is to know he is carrying love with him.
I got upset about leaving our current house until I realised that my heart needs to be at peace, no matter what disruption I go through. To know peace can be available to you whatever the circumstances is such a comfort. In Proverbs 3v3 it says –
‘Do not let truth and mercy leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.’ Whatever is important to you, hold it close and it will carry you through the darkest of times.
I’m sure the Israelites were comforted by the promise of a land flowing with milk and honey. Believing good things lie ahead can be a panacea when anxieties about the unknown rise up.
My prayer for you, myself and my son is we never forget that love can go behind, beside and ahead of us, no matter where we rest our head.
