Have any of you felt like you’re running on empty? You have put on a good show for years but something is crumbling?

We ran out of heating oil yesterday and it’s the weekend so are surviving with thick blankets and electric heaters. Sometimes stop gaps just don’t suffice. When the mask slips, doubts rise and the dam bursts, it is definitely time to replenish.

I was watching the birds flying back and forth two days ago. They would take a little bit of seed, fly up to a high branch to eat it and then fly back for more. Do you have a store that you use briefly and then go to a safer place to enjoy it? Some might call that home, others respite.

Psalm 23 talks about a place of still waters and green pastures. The phrase that keeps going round my head today is from that psalm: ‘my cup overflows’. You can keep forcing that smile, darting in and out to get fleeting comfort or you can let the Master Host give you something that never runs out.

It’s called amazing grace.
