When there is nothing

I have had a very empty couple of weeks as a writer. Usually an idea comes for a new story, or even a post like this one, but here I am writing about nothing because I have drawn a blank!

Do you ever feel like that? Are you bored with life, fed up with work, running out of new ideas for living? Did you ever have a dream of what your life would be and all you are looking at is a flashing cursor and empty hands?

My advice to myself and to you would be to start with a faint idea, make a tiny step and let things come to life for you. Don’t turn away from an absence of ideas, don’t let despair set in. You have the potential to make a change, or if, like me, you are too tired to do that, let someone else help you find the strength. I came upon the following verses and I’ll let them lift you up today.

‘The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad;     the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly     and rejoice with joy and singing… For waters break forth in the wilderness,     and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool,     and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down,     the grass shall become reeds and rushes. And a highway shall be there,     and it shall be called the Way of Holiness… And the ransomed of the LORD shall return     and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;     they shall obtain gladness and joy,     and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.’Isaiah 35:1–2a,6b–8a,10 (ESVUK)
