Life is so overwhelmed by silliness and suffering. I lie down at night and so many thoughts, worries and fears rush in. It is hard to stop them, isn’t it? No special teas, no pills, can successfully halt the torrent of anxious thoughts.
I have found that when the panic starts, the best solution is to turn your thoughts to good, certain, steady things. The advice from the Bible is exactly that-
‘Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things’.(Philippians 4v8)
What can you think about to drown out the noise of worry? There must be something. A good piece of music, a great holiday, the dawn chorus, a baby, a puppy or a good book?.
Of course there are times when worry wins and it is impossible to divert your thoughts. I have spent so much time on reels just trying to not think about stuff. But then I look out my window and remember there are some beautiful, pure things that will always stand when you feel your life is falling apart. I’ll try and find them if you do.
