They do say, ‘there’s nothing new under the sun’. But I disagree. New ideas and new ways are there to discover. Someone came up with the idea of a beach wheelchair that turned  my day around. Or the scooter that made it possible for my dad to whizz up the hill to see me. Sometimes we need to abandon our attachment to old habits, our sense of shame and embrace something different. Something new

My sister-in-law told me about a woman on a French beach who carried her deckchair out to the sea and tried to float on it. That is one dubious example of giving up on the old and trying out something new, is it not?!

Believing that there is always a way can really help when you feel stuck. But try to avoid being silly! You should see the way I launch myself at a chair sometimes🙄.

Looking out my window I see a surprising yellow rose blooming in spite of the strong sun. The hydrangea beside it has given up in the heat but the rose stands strong.  Be like that rose. Never give up. Find a new way to stand against the tried and tested old ways that are crumbling for you now.

Next time I’m at the beach, I’ll remember that ambitious woman with her deckchair and think about all the new ways we can face up to hard realities with something fresh. Something that sets us free.
